Hello and Welcome to St Thomas's Centre

I am extremely proud and feel very privileged to be the Headteacher of St Thomas's Centre. It is our expectation that pupils succeed - No exceptions! No excuses!

We are the only pupil referral unit located within Blackburn with Darwen Local Authority. St Thomas's provides both full and part-time education for up to 165 young people aged 5-16.  The majority of our pupils are directed to us following a permanent exclusion.  Mainstream schools also refer pupils to us for intervention for a short period of time when pupils are struggling in their settings or at risk of permanent exclusion. The majority of our young people have social, emotional or mental health difficulties. 

We are ambitious for all our pupils, and through a combination of skilful curriculum design and infectious warmth, we help our pupils to have a sense of belonging so that they can thrive.

Curriculum

The pupils of St Thomas’s Centre all have additional social, emotional, or mental health learning needs. Some of the pupils also have additional SEND needs in other areas. Our pupils are aged 5- 16 and are taught over multiple sites in different provisions based on need.

  • Thank you all at Thomas's for the way you have all treated our son. As we explained in the meeting it’s been an absolutely amazing school, you have shown him respect and he has shown you respect. We feel he has turned into a different person since being there, you helped him so, so much. Please all be so proud of yourselves for all the hard work you do. Sadly it is coming to an end for him now and he will return to his mainstream school but you will never be forgotten from any of his family .
